Trek Kuaripass - Roopkund

Lord Curzon made the trek to Kuari Pass, and since then it has come to be known as Curzon’s trail. It is very popular among European and American travelers. They climb the ridge above Tapovan, and reach Gailgarh, where the trail coming from Gorson meets. One can also reach Kuari Pass from Auli Bugyal through Gorson Top. The main attraction on Corzon’s trail is the majestic view of the peaks of Nanda Devi, Kamet, Dronagiri and Hathi Parvat. Roopkund is bordered by rocky glaciers and snow-clad peaks. There is a mystery lake (4777 M) with diameter of approximately 50 meters. The word ‘Roopkund’ is a combination of two words – “Roop” meaning skeleton and “Kund” (lake). The story goes that the glacial lake has remains of scores of humans who perished many years ago. As per mythological accounts, these remains are of Tibetan traders who were slaves of the Tughlak army. There is one more magnificent feature of this area. In every 12 years, a yatra known as “Nanda RajJat” takes place, which is devoted to Mighty Goddess Nanda Devi. The colorful festival starts from Nauti, a village near Karnaprayag and ends at Hemkund, which is beyond Roopkund and said to be a place where Lord Shiva married Goddess Nanda Devi.

The prime requirement for clothes and equipment you bring on your trip is that they should be comfortable and appropriate to the weather conditions that you are likely to meet. For protection against cold, a number of relatively thin layers is better than a few thick ones so choose your clothes accordingly. This also means that you will be better equipped to deal with a wide variation in temperature which is a common feature of any trip. You should not worry about how you are going to look on the trail. Comfort and protection against bad weather is far more important. Duffel bag (large, lockable bags are recommended over expensive backpacks/suitcase).
